Program Coordinators

Volunteer Coordinator

Works with the director of operations to coordinate volunteers for work days and events. The volunteer coordinator tracks our volunteer database, fields volunteer inquiries and questions from neighbors.
Time Commitment: 2023

Events Coordinator

Manages logistics and planning for events. This includes fundraising and community events like farm dinners, concerts, and movie nights. This year, events are expanding to offer educational events and welcome new ideas about how to include everyone in our community. Most of all, this position is all about hospitality. We envision the farm as the neighborhood’s “hearth” and gathering place.
Time Commitment: 2023

Communications Coordinator

Will help get the word out about the farm and support the goal of expanded neighborhood engagement. This person oversees the social media accounts and email newsletter, but is also highly encouraged to use physical media like flyers, cards, and signs. A huge plus if this person is bilingual in English and Spanish. Time Commitment: 2023

Community Compost Coordinator

Will manage and run our community compost program. Previous experience composting is preferred for this role but not required. This will be one of our focus programs from the start with an emphasis on engaging our neighborhood, recycling food waste, and building the farm’s fertility. The compost coordinator will have primary ownership of the program to pioneer and design how it will run. Time Commitment: 2023

  • Culinary Team Members (4-6 Months)

The culinary team will serve the farm in one of its primary goals: to be the hearth of the community. Bringing neighbors together in a common love of farming, food, and hospitality. The culinary team will prepare meals for volunteers and the community, using as much seasonal farm produce as possible in as many ways as our creativity will allow. The culinary team will collaborate with the agriculture team to plan seasonal crop rotations with farm-to-table style dinners in mind. Tasks include farm dinner menu planning, prep work, set up/tear down, live fire cooking, service, and general hospitality.

During our first year, we will focus on building chef collaborations and hosting pop-ups, building our outdoor kitchen (including a large, wood-fired oven), and hosting fundraising dinners. Eventually we hope to include recipe R&D, community cooking classes, raising heritage breed animals, and artisanal butchery.

We are building from the ground up. Previous kitchen experience is helpful but not required, only passion and creativity. Food and good cheer will be our specialty!

  • Compost Team Members (4-6 Months)

Just like plants and animals, compost requires attention. Our community compost program will include sorting raw materials, managing ingredient ratios, tracking moisture and temperature levels, turning, and assessing biological activity. Our plan is to offer food and yard waste drop off for neighbors to start, with the possibility of a pickup/bucket swap program in the future.

  • Agriculture Team Members (4-6 Months)

The agriculture team tends the crops, animals, and greenhouse at the farm. The agriculture team collaborates closely with the culinary team on crop planning, seasonal dinners, and special projects. Team members also rotate as educators for ecology and gardening classes. Everyone participates in each aspect of the farm’s systems, but can choose a focus according to his or her interests. In the future, we will have leads for our greenhouse and ecology systems.

In 2023, we will be growing cover crops and transitioning into flowers and vegetables. Most of our work will be designing and building systems. In this process, we will study our ecosystem to inform our approach and mimic nature as we set up a farm that wastes nothing, builds fertility, and maximizes the harvest of solar energy and water.

Tasks and projects will include seed starting, soil and water management, crop harvesting, chicken husbandry, record keeping, and seed saving. And yes, we will all take turns mowing the grass during the Summer.

  • Infrastructure Team (4-6 Months)

The infrastructure team will work to establish, maintain, and improve upon the systems and built environment at the farm. In addition to their own vision, the team will work closely with other teams to help bring their ideas to life.
