So it Begins

You could blame restlessness produced by the coronavirus pandemic. You could blame the writings of Wendell Berry. You could even blame Spring, when the mildness of weather in Texas makes any idea involving outdoor activity sound like a pleasant one. All these are to blame, yes. However, this project is the manifestation of five neighbors harboring a common aspiration that has knocked around in our minds for some time. The idea: a cooperative farm at the heart of our neighborhood. The choice of farm may carry an air of exaggeration or arrogance, relative to the size of our operation (1/8th acre ). The choice of “farm” rather than “garden” is intentional. A farm is a holistic system that sustains itself. It is about relationships. As a society, our relationship to the land is broken. Our relationship with food is a shadow of what it could be. Our relationships with each other are segregated. Our goal is to heal these relationships through modeling regenerative agriculture, practiced in community. Out of a renewed relationship with food, comes a reinvigorated connection to nature, as well as culture. We hope this small piece of land becomes a hub of connection, to each other and to wonder. So it begins.
